Shunzhi obtained his Ph.D. in 2018 from Northwestern University, where he worked with Dr. Chad Mirkin to study nanomaterials and colloidal crystals engineering with DNA. During his postdoctoral training with Dr. David Baker at the University of Washington, he developed and applied computational methods for designing self-assembling protein architectures and functional nanomaterials. In Fall 2025, Shunzhi started his lab at the Institute for Systems Genetics at NYU School of Medicine in New York. His group uses AI-guided biomolecular design to create programmable delivery vehicles for next-generation gene therapies and to explore generative cell biology with emergent properties. Shunzhi has won multiple fellowships and awards, including the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Award at the Scientific Interface, Ryan fellowship, Basolo fellowship, and the IIN Outstanding Research Award. Outside the lab, he enjoys sports, cooking, and spending time with his family.
